I’ve got a pile of ‘stuff’ I’m taking to Tanzania in my storage room. In a couple of days I’ll start packing in a more serious manner. You know how it is when you get ready to go on a trip – you make plans and you prepare, but you’re not ‘there’ until you’re really ‘there.’
That’s how I feel right now. I’m ready to organize my minimal belongings for this journey and renew and strengthen relationships in Christ in Tanzania. And I’m really excited about this trip to visit our mission partnerships in Tanzania. Here’s a snapshot of my trip plans:
- Distribute 200 Ki Swahili Bibles to Confirmation students at Mudio Lutheran and Karansi Lutheran Churches. This fall, our Wednesday at the Well and SLC community took up an offering for these Bibles. Each Wednesday, students ‘stormed’ the front of the worship center to place their offerings on the altar for these Bibles. The Word of God carries on through these children, and now into the lives of our Tanzanian Confirmation students.
- Visit Schools. Through the ministry of Sheridan Lutheran Church, we support over 180 orphaned students in their education. Secondary school is not free in Tanzania. These scholarships make the difference for these kids and give them a choice to better their lives. Without these funds, these children would be left to the streets, or forced to marry and have children early in life. These scholarships give hope!
- Celebrate our CONSPIRE Christmas Offering at Udoro Church. Once again, we were able to give a great gift to the baby Jesus this Christmas 2014. We are sending funds to help complete the church building at Udoro Lutheran Church. It will be wonderful to celebrate this gift with the people of Udoro. I will bring greetings from our Sheridan community.
- Share the sacraments of baptism and communion. While at Mudio Lutheran Church, I will work with Pastor Christosia Ngowi and assist in baptisms of several children as well as help serve communion. Sharing God’s grace in this way will bless us all and strengthen us in our service together.
Keep posted to this blog. I’ll be updating it along the way of my journey and when I get home as well.
