This year, Sheridan’s VBS offering will benefit Barnabas Community. Barnabas Community began 10 years ago as a free store. Barnabas was started in cooperation with Sheridan Lutheran Church, People’s City Mission and Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church. Since then it has grown into a new, larger location and now includes a free store and community center. Thousands of people are positively impacted by the work of Barnabas Community through the free store and these other ministries:
- Free meals distributed on Thursday night & Saturday morning.
- A worship service at 5:40pm on Thursday night.
- A monthly free optometry clinic hosted in cooperation with Shared Vision International.
- Foodnet distribution each Sunday.
Each day at VBS, children learned about Barnabas Community. Throughout the week they then were encouraged to bring financial offerings and donated items for the free store. Financial offerings will benefit the purchase of some much needed items to improve the meal ministry, like a commercial refrigerator and food serving tables with sneeze guards. Children also brought donations of items, including diapers (all sizes for babies & toddlers), feminine hygiene products, new underwear and summer clothing, socks, shoes, books and toys.
VBS Partner Update: Three Years After Nepal Earthquake
Three years ago, our special offering during VBS went to support earthquake relief efforts in Nepal. The VBS theme that year was “Everest” – trusting God, even when the climb is tough. We turned our hearts toward Nepal in their time of struggle and dedicated our offering to the work of Lutheran World Relief, one of our ELCA mission partners. Three years later, many of the people who received assistance after the earthquake say that their lives are better. Learn how your VBS offering made a big difference.
