ave you been longing to discover a deeper connection to God and other people of faith? Is your heart open to the voice of God? Deacon Kathy Paisley and Pastor Eric Bostrom are offering a new adult faith formation process called Companions In Christ.
This new experience is open to anyone willing and able to make the time commitment. Through 26 Monday evening sessions and one final retreat, April 27-28, 2018, committed participants will open their hearts to each other with scripture and journaling, discovering authentic ways to engage in spiritual leadership in our congregation and the larger community.
What is Companions in Christ?
It is a systematic program designed to create a setting where you and other people in our church can respond to God’s call to an ever-deepening communion and wholeness in Christ –as individuals, as members of a small group, and as part of our congregation. Participants will explore the potential of Christian community as an environment of grace and mutual guidance through the Holy Spirit. Small groups will grow closer as you seek together to know and respond to God’s will. Our congregation will grow when you and your companions begin to bring what you learn into all areas of church life, from classes and meetings, to worship and outreach.
Companions in Christ is also designed to develop individuals for leadership roles in guiding the spiritual life of our congregation, learning how small groups in the church become a setting for spiritual guidance.
The five units will enable us to immerse ourselves in streams of living waters through the spiritual disciplines of prayer, scripture, study, worship, ministry and Christian conversation. These means of grace will be ways Christ meets us, renews our faith and deepens our life together in love. This program is for spiritually hungry persons who seek a deeper experience of God in company with others in Christian community. It is a study for church people who want to explore afresh the basic disciplines of faith and the pathways of lifelong growth in Christ. While it assumes a basic familiarity with the Bible, it is for persons who do not think they have all the answers, who are willing to hear scripture in new ways and who acknowledge their need to grow in God’s grace. Individual reading and daily exercises to help you reflect on your life in light of the content of the readings through journaling of your reflections and prayers will help prepare you for our time together each week.
The weekly sessions will be 6:30-8pm on Mondays beginning September 18. The final retreat is being planned for April 27-28 (Friday evening and Saturday). Participants must have the time and willingness to commit to this process. The fee for participation in Companions in Christ will cover materials and retreat costs.
