Women’s Devotion: One Another

One Another

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Hebrews 10:24-25

This encouraging verse from Hebrews was selected by Sheridan’s Women’s Ministry team over 12 years ago as our guiding Scripture. It was the basis for our mission statement – “to encourage the hearts and minds of women to know, love and serve God.” We see both our guiding Scripture and our mission statement on our agenda each time we meet so that we remember to make plans for women’s ministry programs and reach out to women with this purpose in mind.

At our meeting in January, we keyed in on the phrase “one another.” While we haven’t been with one another in person, we have been able to face one another and listen to one another through Zoom. We each shared a personal perspective on how this very common New Testament word combo has been brought to light in very real ways in the past year. It was easy to see why Jesus and the apostle Paul used these two words connected with a verb, an action statement, so often in teaching us how to live as followers of Christ. Love one another. Pray for one another. Encourage one another. Tell one another. Serve one another. Teach one another. Understand one another. Work with one another. Listen to one another. Sing to one another. Reconcile with one another. See one another. Wait for one another. Accept one another. Bear with one another. Forgive one another. Give grace to one another.

Take a minute to reflect on which “one another” action statement speaks to you today in the circumstances of your life.

Loving Lord, continue to teach us how best to be like you with one another in our families, our church, our workplaces, our neighborhoods and our community. Amen.
