Community!
Please take the time to read Acts 2:42-47
I am a brand new member of the Sheridan congregation and so it was a great honor to be trusted to contribute a devotional offering.
When I was given the scripture about the community of the very early Church, I felt God’s hand in it. You see, I chose Sheridan carefully because I was looking for a community in which I could worship the Lord and know that those who led the worship and those who worshipped beside me were there for the glory of God; a community in which I could grow in my faith along with others who earnestly desired to know Christ better and follow Him more closely every day; to serve the Lord with my time and my talents along with others who also serve out of gratitude for all we have received; a community that would welcome me to walk beside them. In other words, a community that devotes themselves to teaching and fellowship and to prayer… who breaks bread in their homes and eats together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all people. Just as the early Christians valued this, I do too.
We can look with joy on the young lives following Christ and those in the outreach ministries who are seeing Christ in His hands and feet in the world. I am glad to be at Sheridan with you. As we enter a new year, may we be in community as Christ intended it to be, to the glory of God.
Dear Lord,
Thank you for the Sheridan community, it’s leaders, and those who worship you and minister in your name. In this year, help us to be in community as you intended it, serving and communing with sincere hearts as we praise you for all your goodness and love. Amen.

Lori Snyder-Sloan is new to Sheridan, having been a life-long child of God. In her past life she served in healthcare as an Infection Preventionist for CHI Health, and currently enjoys volunteering as a nurse and working part-time from home. She is the wife of Jon Sloan and the mother of married children in Florida and Oregon, a bonus-daughter in Germany and two pups at home. Her family is the highlight of her life, however she also enjoys raising plants, reading, crocheting, Bible study, time with friends, and cross-fit workouts. She and Jon currently live in Omaha, but after the remodel of the family home, they will move back to Lincoln in early June.
