God Sighting: Acts of Kindness

My name is Margaret Henninger, I’m a 98-year-old member of the church. I want to tell you about two God Sightings that I’ve had in Jim and Linda Eggen. I first met Jim about 16 years ago when he was calling on shut-in individuals. At that time my husband was homebound due to illness. Jim came to visit him every week and spent an hour or more visiting with us talking about family, farming, and of course, the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Those visits were wonderful for my husband and did a lot to raise his spirits. My husband looked forward to Jim’s visit each week and he appreciated the time he spent with him. Those visits improved the quality of my husband’s life during those last years. We both appreciated and enjoyed the visits enormously. During those visits, Jim told me his wife was working, but when she stopped, I should meet her. When that time came, I was able to meet Linda.
I know Jim was very proud of his wife, but he never told me she was an angel. Linda and I got to know each other and had lots of fun making coffee for our Lydia’s circle. When I had to give up driving, she came to my rescue and chauffeured me to my many doctor appointments. During the time of Covid, she had to sit in her car and wait for me during the extremes of Nebraska weather, both hot and cold. Linda took me shopping for groceries and even picked them up herself when I couldn’t go. She’s picked up my prescriptions, that are vital to me, and showed up at my house with meals (including her delicious beef and barley soup, along with some amazing homemade cookies). But, the most special part of all of this was her friendship and all of the good conversations we had. I don’t know what I would have done without Linda here to help me.
Sheridan can be proud of all of the special people that are part of the congregation. But I want you to know about these two very special angels. I’ve had more God Sightings that I’ll share at another time, but Jim and Linda Eggen were at the top of my list.
