Women’s Devotion: Be Kind
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God has
forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32
Only two words, but such a powerful message for us all. What does it mean to be kind?
It is an act of showing love, care, affection, and empathy without any reason. Kindness isn’t just about big gestures; it’s about everyday moments that can really make a difference for someone. A simple act, such as a friendly smile, offering help, or just being there to listen, can brighten someone’s day and lift their spirits.
One of my favorite programs on TV is The Chosen. I love how the character of Jesus responds to everyone in such a positive, kind way. The response of people, from young to old, from facial to verbal, makes my heart happy. He took the time to show his disciples how to be kind as he demonstrated it to everyone he met. It is a good reminder that Christ is our teacher, and we have a responsibility to follow his positive example.
In our world today, with all of the media we have, there is a tendency to judge people and make comments that aren’t always kind. Often people want to be ‘right’ rather than ‘kind’ and, without thinking, say or do things that can be very hurtful. It’s important to remember that not everyone thinks as we do, and we need to ‘be kind’ and respect everyone’s viewpoint, whether we agree or not.
We need kindness. We need to be positive influences on everyone we come in contact with. Needless to say, our minds are filled with so much—from self to families to health and more. It’s important that we put into perspective what is really important and make sure we follow Jesus’ example. ‘Do to others as you would have them do to you’ (Luke 6:31). In doing so, we inspire others to pay it forward, helping to create a culture of compassion in our community and world. In tough times, a little kindness can go a long way in providing hope.
Heavenly Father,
Help me to live by your example and ‘be kind’ to everyone each and every day.
Amen
