God Sighting: Serving, Learning, and Growing Together – Family Mission Weekend Reflections

Our Family Mission Weekend revealed God’s presence in powerful ways. While the snow and cold weather added a hurdle to serve, we still braved the conditions to come together. Through our work with Barnabas Community, the Great Commission came alive as we witnessed practical ways of demonstrating God’s love by assembling travel size hygiene kits and sorting clothing and household goods donations.

Saturday afternoon focused on building community through games and ropes activities at Carol Joy Holling Camp.

Sunday’s focus on loving our neighbor (Matthew 22:39) broadened our understanding of “neighbor” to include our church and beyond while we updated the activity board for Sheridan’s Sensory Room and made bird houses for the new Outdoor Classroom. At Table Grace Cafe, “Love one another” (John 13:34) was exemplified through preparing items for meals to serve at the cafe’. Learning about the ways in which this cafe is working to give folks the training and food service skills to get stable employment, in addition to getting a hot meal, highlighted the importance of compassionate service.

God was present in shared laughter, thoughtful discussions, and
intergenerational connections. The weekend emphasized that serving God and
loving neighbors are intertwined expressions of faith, revealing how God works
through us to bring love and hope to the world.
