All Stars Completes Another Year in 2013
Each year Sheridan offers the prevention program, All Stars, during Wednesdays @ the Well for 5th graders. The goal of All Stars is to prevent the onset of substance abuse, reduce violence and delinquency and prevent premature sexual activity. The emphasis is on prevention, keeping adolescents from starting to participate in these problem behaviors. Research shows that early adolescence, an age when most young people are not engaged in these behaviors, is the critical period of development when prevention is effective. Keeping teens from experimenting with high-risk behaviors has a lot to do with how parents deal with their teenagers. Our Christian faith and beliefs have been integrated into this curriculum to allow families to discuss their values and beliefs while setting standards.
The following 5th graders have completed the All Stars program and will make their commitments at a final celebration scheduled for April 30: Madalynn Abele, Maggie Buettner, David Crabb, Emmi Dearmont, Justice Durante, Landyn Michel, Jenna Muma, Hudson Scherer, Lauren Stull, Alexis Rohlfs, Kai Waddell, Cambry Waddell. Thank you to Julie Frederick for her leadership of this class.
