Anniversaries

sheridanfront

I love celebrating anniversaries and hope you do, too. This year at Sheridan we are celebrating three huge milestones, our 60th anniversary as a congregation, our 10th year in the current facility and the completion of our five-year Ride the Waves Capital Campaign. Each is worthy, and yet how glorious to celebrate them all together! As we celebrate, we will mark the changes that have happened in the Church – not just Sheridan, but in the Christian church in our culture. How has “church” changed in 60 (or even 10) years? What is a vision to meet the changing needs of people of faith? How has Sheridan changed? How do we want to change?
I am personally excited to mark our progress. Together we share a remarkable history and it is fulfilling to reflect on what was. I am even more excited about Sheridan’s future. Our best years are yet to come! As we continue our walk of faith, lives are transformed – our lives and the lives of those we serve.
Maybe the bigger question on anniversaries is, why do we exist? We exist to serve the world for Jesus. Our mission statement seems to express this most fully: “Sheridan Lutheran Church is a community of Christ’s faithful followers, who have been called by God to love deeply, grow spiritually and give abundantly.” How amazing it has been to live into this mission. I am blessed to think of my years with you as we have dedicated ourselves to God’s call.
So let the celebrating begin! We will have a special worship series over the months of January and February (see attached article). We will harken back to our past and “Burst Forth” with inspiring music, guest preachers and visitors from the past. We will also be visioning for the future!
Two very special Sheridan Celebrations will take place on the evenings of January 12 & 19 in which we will share a meal and hear stories of faith from the different chapters of Sheridan. Please RSVP via the website at www.sheridan.flywheelsites.com/sheridan-celebration or contact the church office.
Few things fill my heart with joy like a good anniversary celebration. And this month at Sheridan, we will have three!
