Day 2 Of Camp:
“What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also. I will sing praise with my spirit but I will sing with my mind also.”

Everyday camp has a certain routine, starting with singing and dancing then followed with a little breakfast. After all that chaos we go to our stations which include science, storytelling, learning new languages, arts and crafts, and the best of all, games. Nothing ever goes according to plan and we are learning that that is very O.K. “Go with the flow” is our new motto! The kids here treat us like we’re movie stars, they come up to us and look at us in awe. They love our skin and our hair, they are constantly touching our skin to feel it and braiding our hair. It’s a little weird! But when they run up to you every morning and greet you with a giant hug, you can’t help but feel happy to be there. It makes all the sweat and sitting in the heat worth it.
Last night at devotions we were talking about God Sightings, and how we have seen God on this trip. One of the biggest ones that we all have seen is when the kids sing. Just seeing and hearing them sing all together in Krèole is so cool and when they sing in English it’s absolutely amazing to hear. All the children love camp. Every morning you when walk into the game area for the opening music all they all run up to you with big smiles and open arms.
When I talked to the people from our church that have gone to Haiti before, they all said how much they enjoyed the trip and how they couldn’t wait to go back, and when I first got here I wasn’t so sure that’s how I felt. At first I was very unsure of Haiti, and I was extremely overwhelmed with everything. It’s a lot to take in. But the longer I am here and the more I’m around the people I feel more comfortable and I feel the love that everyone was talking about before. It’s amazing how the children and the people here are so welcoming. They all want to serve you and they want to make sure that you’re always okay and comfortable. It’s weird how they want to serve us because we were the ones that came to be their servants. I feel very welcomed here. And I am happy to say that I do want to make another trip back.
