Devotion: Enthusiasm
There is little that compares to the heartwarming excitement of a child’s enthusiastic greeting. This week my seven-month old granddaughter held out her arms, waved them, wiggled, lunged forward, and laughed with glee. How many times do adults say, “Hi” or “How are you?” with a routine, lackluster voice or body language? Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Children express their delight without reservations. I think Jesus wants us to regain that joyful childlike attitude toward others. We might follow their example by practicing whole-hearted greetings with our family and friends until they become more comfortable.Dear Heavenly Father,
Help me to be more sincere and enthusiastic in my interactions. Let me relate to family and friends in a way that they feel valued. Allow me to spread joy and warmth to those I encounter. Return to me some of that childlike spontaneity and enthusiasm that fades from busy adult lives. Bless the children for their inspiration.
Amen
