Devotion: Heaven, The Play of Eternity

Devo_073125

Please take the time to read Matthew 6:19-20, 25-33

Well, Mike and Janece, it’s been a slice of heaven!” Years ago, my husband and I had friends who would enjoy an evening meal in our home and as they were leaving, our friend would always leave us with these beautiful words. “It’s been a slice of heaven!

In Pastor Michelle’s sermon last Sunday, she stressed that heaven is a gift. We can have it now because Jesus is with us. We can enjoy the play of eternity today. The joy of God’s beautiful creation can break through our pain and suffering.

We do not walk the journey of life alone. In Matthew 6:19-20, 25-33, we read that we should relax and not let worry steal our tomorrows. God already has promised a life in heaven for us. We have a faith filled path to follow because of Jesus’ death and resurrection. He suffered and died on Good Friday but rose again on Easter Sunday to give us the promise of an eternal home with Him.

In life, we go through our own Good Fridays, suffering pain and sorrow, but we are an Easter people that are saved by God’s grace. God’s faithfulness to us enables us to share the joy of our inheritance to come. Reach out and touch someone who needs a slice of heaven!

Good and Gracious God,
Thank you for giving us a daily glimpse of heaven as you reveal joy in your promise of eternal life. Exchange our worries for genuine concerns that move us to action by helping others. Equip us with your grace enabling us to share a glimpse of heaven by our thoughts, words, and deeds.  Amen
