Devotion: I Must Tell Jesus
Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in times of distress. Isaiah 33:2
2015 has been a lot like the current stock market for our family, but as I write this devotion I have to say that whatever happens there is never a day (often not an hour) that passes that I don’t thank God for my many blessings – the country in which I live, the freedom to worship as I choose, my health, my loving family, and my wonderful friends. This said…this year we have had some magnificent highs and some dauntingly devastating lows.
Why is it so easy to praise God when life is so good, and so very difficult to turn to Him when we struggle? Is it because we see ourselves as strong, self-sufficient, and able to “power through”? Do we not ask others to lift us up in prayer because we think their tribulations might be far greater than ours? Where do we turn when we feel so alone?
This summer our worship series was focused on “Generating Greatness” and in her message on the holistic healing of our broken mind, body, spirit, and community Pastor Michelle reiterated in her beautiful, plaintive, a capella voice what we always have known
“I must tell Jesus
I must tell Jesus
I cannot bear these burdens alone
I must tell Jesus
I must tell Jesus
Jesus can heal me
Jesus alone”
Why are those words buried so deeply? We can turn to the Greatest of all Friends and find solace and peace knowing He is there for us. The strength we achieve from this knowledge is immeasurable. As President Lincoln once said, “I have been driven to my knees many times by the overwhelming conviction that I had no place to go”.
It is okay to ask for help.
