Please take the time to read Matthew 7:24-29
Maybe you’ve heard someone say it. Maybe you’ve even said it yourself: “I was this many days old (meaning today) when I learned (insert new discovery here).”
Well, I was this many days old when I learned how to write a devotional. One of my top Gallup strengths is Learner, so I’ve been programmed to seek out new challenges, I guess.
While this phrase is commonly used jokingly, I like this phrase because it forces us to take a beat and truthfully acknowledge we gained additional wisdom. Maybe even a new truth.
In Sunday’s scripture, Jesus is wrapping up his Sermon on the Mount in the final verses of Chapter seven, and he hits us with yet another parable.
It’s easy to quickly dismiss this parable as a lesson in sound construction advice. However, it’s more of a lesson on listening. Jesus is asking us to follow the word of God rather than listen to those voices that are meant to turn us away from Him.
In Sunday’s message, Pastor Greg spoke about how learning is an act of humility. We’re admitting we don’t know what we don’t know.
So as we enter this fresh season of Faith Formation, it gives us an opportunity to humbly ask God to guide us. How will you be called to serve? Maybe it’s teaching youth or simply committing time to grow in your own faith journey.
Whenever we take the time to learn from God’s wisdom, we will certainly strengthen our hearts and our minds and ultimately our community.
Dear God, you are the rock of our foundation. Give me the humility to admit I don’t know everything. Help me to take a beat and truly listen for the wisdom in your words. Further guide me to lean into your wisdom so I can discover ways to share your lessons and love with others, especially in this new season of Faith Formation.
