Putting a face with the house

While we are in El Salvador to work; we get to know the families we are working for. Many of the families try to come by the house as much as possible. To get to see their genuine joy and gratitude, helps to keep the morale high when the sun beats down and breezes are short. Since our team is large, we have many projects going on at the same time.

We have two houses in progress and a couple of septic systems to dig. These different tasks have given us the opportunity to meet different families. Getting to talk with the families as we work in their houses is always a treat. But today we were able to see a before and after.

We were invited to see the current home of one our future homeowners. Maria del Carmen will own the home where Pastor Greg and Jerry Fricke have been digging the septic systems. To hear her excitment and see the anticipation on her face as we visited, it was hard to not get the goosebumps. I can imagine their anticipation as they look forward to tile floors instead of dirt ones and an indoor bathroom and shower. The move in date is set for a week from now. Excitement is in the air.

So not only do we get to know the masons we work with, we form bonds with the families we are building for.

At our team meeting each evening we talk about our experiences of the day. It is great to hear about the relationships being formed with those whom we are working around. Getting to see the progress of the house helps us to see the significance of a safe and secure home for a family.
