God Sighting: A Family Growing Spiritually

Joe and I started attending Sheridan as a couple when we first started dating. I was already a member of the church. We both knew that finding a partner who put God first in their lives was key to building a long, lasting relationship and we both felt very strongly that God had led us to each other. It felt natural to allow our relationship to grow together by starting with God as our foundation. Going to church together allowed us the opportunity to listen to God’s word together which led to many conversations and growth in our individual faith journeys as well as together as a couple. We eventually got engaged and then married and as our relationship grew so did the relationships that we made with other members of the church. These relationships have continued to grow over the last 10+ years and are a constant source of love and support for us.
“[Worship] is a time for spiritual renewal for Joe and I and making it a priority in our lives shows our children how important God is to us.”

When we began our lives as parents having a church home felt really great. Having the pastor who married us also baptize Joe and our children was very special to us. Faith formation has blessed us in providing learning opportunities to our children outside of what we teach at home. It often leads to more questions and an opportunity to look for answers as a family as we all grow in faith. It teaches our children that we are never done learning and growing with God but also provides a firm foundation for their own faith to grow.
Weekly worship is important to our family as it is a dedicated time every week to listen to God’s word and make sure we are keeping him at the center of what we do every day. It is a time for spiritual renewal for Joe and me and making it a priority in our lives shows our children how important God is to us. Hopefully, this will be something they carry into their own lives as adults.
