God Sighting: A Life Stitched with Faith, Love, and Service
Barb and Lawayne Feit joined Sheridan in 1973. They raised their two daughters at Sheridan and were a stalwart fixture in the church’s ministries. They had much to be thankful for. Lawayne nearly lost his life in the Vietnam War. Barb was pregnant when Lawayne enlisted. Almost immediately, he was severely injured in combat, but Barb stayed by his side. He recovered, and they built a life together.
Barb dedicated over 35 years to teaching, loving every moment in the classroom. She also shared her passion for nurturing young minds as part of Sheridan’s Sunday School team. For more than 40 years, Barb has embroidered the gift cloth napkins given to families at baptism. Each napkin, individually crafted with care by Barb, has become a cherished keepsake, and over the years, she has made thousands of them. This “behind the scenes” ministry, known to only a few, continued even after Barb and Lawayne moved to Omaha to be near their daughter.
The embroidering has not always been easy. Barb recently completed chemotherapy in October, and her scans show that she is cancer-free! A few weeks ago, Barb dropped off 200 baptismal napkins to the church. What a faithful servant, for sure. As a child of God, a teacher of children, and a loyal and faithful matriarch, Barb’s life reflects the grace of being claimed in the waters of baptism—and so does her ministry.
