God Sighting: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14
It is important for each of us to know and feel that we are treasured for exactly who we are. This spring, a handful of tween daughters spent time exploring what it is to be treasured, by God as well as by their mothers.
This set-apart time granted these special mother/tween daughter relationships intentional time of faith formation and discussions that are sometimes challenging in the midst of busy schedules and growing up.
Creating one-on-one time with my daughter and giving a framework to discuss some topics that don’t always come up naturally was awesome!

Creating the opportunity for conversation starters on important topics through a lens of faith was special. Hearing the laughter from both mothers and daughters during the time together was vital to the experience. These times gave tools for the participants to take home and continue beyond the weekend. Stephanie Novacek shares, “We were able to have open conversations about some very timely topics—our faith, emotions, technology and friendships.”
Because of this retreat, our conversations have been ongoing and our relationship continues to be strengthened.

Providing times for intentional conversations and being real with each other was a great part of the two day retreat. LeighAnn Morehouse shares, “I left the retreat feeling so much closer to my daughter. I feel like I spend so much time correcting her, so I know it meant a lot to her to be reminded how much she is loved and how God made her perfectly.”
I think the girls hearing their moms be vulnerable made us seem more human to them and they knew they weren’t alone.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the gift that mothers and other women of faith in the role they play in our faith lives. It is a great reminder that we can praise the One who created us, for we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
