God Sighting – Lutheran World Relief and Second Quarter

The Second Quarter 20s & 30s group assembled personal care kits for Lutheran World Relief. Personal care kits are given to those who were forced to leave their homes quickly due to a natural disaster that left it in ruins, or while fleeing from war or persecution to refugee camps. We set a goal of assembling 100 of these kits, each of which contains a bath towel, soap, a toothbrush, a comb
After organizing those donations, we purchased a few more items to complete kits and the packing supplies needed to ship them. The seed money from a Thrivent Action Team allowed us to buy the remainder of what was needed.
We had eight members of Second Quarter participate. We started with some fellowship, snacks and sharing our highs and lows from the past week. This time also allowed us to discuss future projects our Second Quarter group might tackle.
Soon after we began packing, we each found our niche and formed an efficient assembly line. Conversation and laughter continued throughout the project. Before heading home, we counted the kits and found we had surpassed our goal. Thanks to the generosity of Sheridan members and friends and the Thrivent Action Team seed money, 109 personal care kits will be shipped to those in need around the world.

Sheridan and Lutheran World Relief
Sheridan has a committed group of quilters who meet regularly to sew quilts that are distributed through Lutheran World Relief. This year 151 quilts from Sheridan were sent around the globe to be used by those who are displaced by war and/or natural disasters. On Nov. 3 & 4, during worship, our community blessed these blankets and kits sent them on their way to be utilized by families in need.
