God Sighting: Servant Hearts

At Sheridan, we take the role of servant leadership seriously; and once
again, this was shown to me through our week of Summer Serve and Vacation
Bible School. There is nothing better than watching the generosity of our youth
shining brightly.

This year’s Summer Serve was fulfilling in so many ways. Forty-four middle school youths and eight young adult/adult volunteers grew in faith while creating 100 hygiene kits for Clinic with a Heart, 13 tie blankets for kids at CHI, 80 flower pots for Habitat for Humanity homeowners, packing 486 bags of corn and 846 bags of peaches for the Food Bank of Lincoln along with painting numerous walls at Barnabas Community. All of this is in addition to numerous other service projects they participated in throughout the week. The most amazing part was that these participants were there because they wanted to be, and their servant hearts were shining brightly through everything they did.

Our Vacation Bible School participants were able to show their generosity as well through their Mission Project of the week; Living Faith Scholarship Program through the Haitian Timoun Foundation. On June 9, Sheridan was delighted to have Maya Luckner, In-Program Director, and Danette Miller, Executive Director, in worship with us. In addition, they were able to be with our morning session of VBS to teach our kids about kids just like them in Haiti. Throughout the month of June, over $6,000 was given for the Living Faith Scholarship program and hundreds of school supplies were collected for kids right here in our community.

It was an amazing week for these ministries and it was truly inspiring, as Sheridan’s youth truly lived out our mission to love deeply, grow spiritually, and share abundantly.

On June 9, Maya Luckner shared with us that he had been unable to travel home as planned after unrest and violence broke out in Haiti at the beginning of March. We are thrilled to report that on June 18, Maya was able to travel home safely and has been reunited with his son! Thanks be to God!
