God Sighting: Youth Mission Trip

Hello, my name is Ryshelle Trejo. I graduated from Lincoln East and I am a freshman at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, studying Marketing. This summer I went on the youth mission trip to Idaho where I had the time of my life serving others, growing in fellowship with peers, and growing God’s kingdom. I also had the privilege to get baptized on the trip in a beautiful river right off the mountains in the beautiful Shoshone Mountain Retreat.
Being baptized on my senior year youth mission trip is something I’ll never forget. Right before our nightly campfire worship myself, Pastor Michelle and my two sponsors, Ian Hartfield and Micah Palmer, went down into the river. The rest of the group formed a congregation and witnessed my baptism. Having some of the most important people in my life getting to witness such a big step in my faith journey is something I’ll never stop being thankful for.
I didn’t have the typical faith journey that a lot of my peers have. I don’t come from a family that really goes to church. I came into Sheridan and my journey of faith around February of 2020, I got involved through a former friend. Even after the year of youth group on zoom I fell in love with the talk about Jesus, the Bible, and a feeling of belonging that I never got anywhere else. I found my best friends and people who have become so important to me.
After these experiences, there’s not anything that can keep me away from Sheridan. Even though I’m now a busy college student I’ll continue to serve in the children’s ministry as a music leader and in the Sunday school classroom. Sheridan is such a special place to be a part of and I am beyond blessed.
