He Knows My Name
Siena, Italy’s Cathedrale de Santa Maria, better known as the Duomo, is a gleaming marble treasury of art from the 13th and 14th centuries. As I was standing in the nave, awed by the beautifully preserved Renaissance frescoes, an American church choir burst forth in song. “I have a father. He calls me his own. He’ll never leave me no matter where I go. He knows my name, he knows my everything, he knows each tear that falls, and hears me when I call.” Now my tears were falling as the music echoed throughout the Duomo. The words were riveting. “He knows my name! He knows my everything!”
Later that day, as I reflected on that moment, I pondered: How well do I really know Him? How often do I call on His name? Do I leave Him when things get tough and my faith wavers?
This year we have a unique opportunity to know Him better through the formation of a Grace Group. Everyone is encouraged to join a Grace Group, small groups of four women, four men or four high school students (and a caring adult) who covenant to meet every other week for at least one year. In our hectic modern day world, Grace Groups can offer the pause that refreshes us. Register here or contact the church office for more information about Grace Groups.
He knows me! Let us all strive to really know Him better in 2014 as we continue Growing in Grace, Loving and Sharing Friendships in Christ.
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for “knowing” me and promising to be there when I call upon you. Amen.
This devotion was written by Janece Nelson, one of Sheridan’s Women’s Ministry Team members, as a way to bring encouragement to the hearts and minds of our sisters in Christ to KNOW, LOVE and SERVE God.
