Labyrinth Dedication
Sheridan’s Campus
Sheridan is blessed with a beautiful outdoor campus that includes a columbarium, Stations of the Cross, a pond, walking trails, benches, two different worship spaces and a memorial prayer labyrinth. We invest in our outside spaces because the outdoors is a powerful way that many people connect with God. The newest addition to our outside space is the memorial prayer labyrinth which was completed in 2013.
One of my favorite memories from 2013, when the labyrinth was being built, was writing prayers with chalk on pieces of slate after worship. These pieces of slate were then laid into the foundation of the labyrinth. Now when I walk the labyrinth, I remember this foundation of prayer in which the labyrinth is built and I feel held up in prayer.
A labyrinth is a pathway that helps people center themselves and connect with God. The pathway of the labyrinth is constantly moving left, right, closer to the center, and away from the center, but ultimately leads to the center. Walking the labyrinth is symbolic of our life and faith journey because we all experience so many twists and turns, we sometimes feel close to God, then we feel far away from God, but God’s grace finally wins in all of our lives and we find ourselves in the center of God’s embrace of love.
Labyrinth Dedication
On Sunday, July 19, we will dedicate this sacred space to the glory of God and for the faith growth of all people. I hope you will come for this unique faith experience. Tours of the memorial prayer labyrinth will happen all morning.
