Adult Faith Formation

Adult Faith Formation

Sheridan encourages spiritual formation in adults leading to transformation, growing in understanding of God’s unconditional grace and love. As much as Jesus loved children, he called adults to be his disciples, to be transformed and be agents of change in our world. The Bible has many stories of Jesus teaching adults and blessing the children.

Adult faith formation takes on various forms and activities that include focused learning on Biblical topics, meaningful conversation, attentive listening, and practicing the disciplines of a Christian way of life. Sheridan’s ministry for adults, in all of the various seasons of life, strives to help us live God’s promises as the family of God and to equip all of us to be formed and transformed as disciples of Christ.

Adults may join classes at any time. Registration is indicated if needed to attend.
Any needed class resources may be purchased on your own or at our OneSent Market just off of the Great Hall.

Current Classes & Learning Opportunities

Heaven: When Faith Becomes Sight

Thursdays, Sept. 10-Oct. 22; 9:30-10:30am; Zoom

This study by Jennifer Rothschild explores the subject of Heaven from a purely biblical perspective, setting aside cultural myths, media depictions, and legends. It addresses questions such as: What is Heaven? Who goes there? What will eternity be like? Participants will also discover how an eternal perspective can transform the way we navigate suffering, uncertainty, and daily life.

The study includes seven video teaching sessions to watch independently and six weeks of personal daily Bible study. Books are available in OneSent.

Wednesday Night Class: Never Enough

Despite your best efforts, do you feel like it’s never enough? You’re not alone! Come gather with other adults to discuss the worship series and discover the way of faith - that your value is not derived through your accomplishments, but rather through your identity with Christ. Wednesday Night Class for Parents: Mattering

Wednesdays, Sept. 16-Oct. 14; 6:30-7:30pm; Room 646
Help your child build a lasting foundation of self-worth and purpose. Inspired by Jennifer Breheny Wallace’s book, Never Enough, this 5-week class led by Julie Hestermann, equips parents of children in grade 5 and younger with practical tools to guide their kids beyond achievement and anchor them in their true identity as a child of God.

Companions on the Journey: Seeking God Together

3rd Mondays, Sept. 21-April 19; 6:30pm; Room 316

This adult offering for our church will provide a time for those who feel a desire to strengthen their relationship with God through sharing in spiritual community. Participants will experience the power of listening and being listened to. There will be sharing, silence to open to the Spirit, reflection and prayer. Because we are building a supportive spiritual community, consistent attendance will be necessary.

This group is facilitated by Kathy Paisley and Anne Kubr.
