Music programming for children at Sheridan focuses on learning how to praise God through voice, movement and instruments. Opening gatherings, praise teams and hands-on musical games and activities are integral parts of this learning. Music programming is offered September – May for preschool through 5th grade and children are welcome to join in any time throughout the year.
Children in Preschool & Kindergarten are invited to attend music classes on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. Classes will spend part of their class time focusing on praising God through music. Children learn songs and actions as well as play music games using various instruments such as drums, boomwhackers, percussion, and move with scarves and dancing. During the Christmas season, all children learn songs and dramas revolving around the Christmas story. Children who would like to participate on the day of the Christmas programs should register for this special event.
Students who attend “Worship and Music” (WAM) will focus on using their musical gifts to praise God. Students spend the first half of class learning melodies and memorizing lyrics to contemporary Christian music, much of the same music that is played during weekend worship. In the second half of class, all students are broken into teams that rotate through vocal mics, drums, percussion, bells or chimes and boomwhackers. WAM is offered on Wednesday nights, Sept.- April, from 6:30-7:30pm. During this time, WAM may lead worship on a Wednesday night, sing for worship on a Sunday morning or take a field trip to visit a Tabitha mission partner. WAM is on break during November and December so that students may participate in Christmas programs. Students are welcome to join in anytime if there is room.
Children entering grades 1-5 in the fall are invited to make a joyful noise this summer as we sing and praise God together! Through drums, boomwhackers, bells, and singing we will learn about Great Bible Truths.
To accommodate more children, please register for either the morning or afternoon session. Registration closes when 20 students/session is reached.
Each Advent, children ages 3 years old, (by July 31 preceding the programs) through grade 5 are invited to share their gifts of music and story-telling at a Christmas program.
Young children are divided: 3-year-old class, Preschool and Kindergarten. These three programs vary in age-appropriate story-telling but all sing the same songs. Therefore, young children will practice singing in any class they attend on either Sunday morning or Wednesday evening.
Students in grades 1-5 have the opportunity to participate in either the “Sunday” program or the “Wednesday” program. Both programs tell the same story and sing the same songs so that students may attend either Sunday or Wednesday rehearsals throughout the week.
Registration is required for participation in any of the five Christmas program opportunities.
