Prayer & Care Ministry

Prayer & Care Ministry

In keeping with our mission to love and share, Sheridan’s Caring ministries give ample opportunity to love and care for each other in Christ’s name. Caregivers provide prayer, visitation, meals, fellowship, and support in a variety of ways to meet physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those in our faith community. Our caring ministries are categorized into prayer, care & visitation, seniors and health & wellness.

Prayer Ministry

A Prayer Chain

A group of committed people pray for the immediate needs of those in our community. Those who serve on the prayer chain receive prayer requests one day each week usually via email. They pray the entire week for these requests. Submit a Prayer Request

Prayer Chapel

Prayer stations are always available in the Chapel. Many stations reflect the current season and are interactive and offer time for reflection. Special stations are created during special seasons of the church year such as Advent and Lent.

You are also encouraged to experience guided prayer through the two organized prayer vigils: National Day of Prayer and the Good Friday Prayer Vigil.

Prayer Labyrinth and Stations of the Cross

Located just off of the 70th Street parking lot entrance, these are prayer additions to the Sheridan campus. Learn more about the Labyrinth. Learn more about the Stations of the Cross.

Care Ministry

Meal Ministry

This caring ministry offers delivery of meals to those returning home from the hospital (whether for illness or the joyful arrival of a baby) and to those who are homebound or going through treatments.  We meet and cook, or cook and deliver individually.

Prayer Shawl/Lap Robe Ministry

This ministry is for those who need to be wrapped, comforted and prayed for while undergoing cancer treatments or other life challenges. Blessings and prayers are knitted into every shawl, while meditation calms and enriches the soul. Learning and teaching knitting and crocheting provides fellowship and inter-generational bonding.

Health and Wellness Activities

Fun and fellowship, participation in sports, with emphasis on nutrition, being together for fellowship and growth in faith are incorporated into youth and adult activities. Exercise programs and walking for health and for support of community causes are encouraged with the help of lay leaders and volunteers.

Visitation Ministry

It is our desire to care for each of our members through their time of need. Through these ministries, we also provide opportunities for you to grow in faith as you serve the community through care ministries.

Hospital Visitors

A skilled team of Sheridan members visit those hospitalized, providing sensitive care to the patient and their families. These former pastors and lay ministers are a liaison between those hospitalized and the pastors on a daily basis to assure support, prayer, communion and pastoral visits.

Visitation Caregivers

Members with specific skills and training assist those who are unable to leave their homes. They pray for them daily, phone weekly, and visit them each month. When possible and desired, Holy Communion is also arranged.

Prayer Partners

Prayer partners may be assigned to someone who has an acute need for healing. They listen empathetically and pray for God’s peace and strength, whether the walk be in mission, for healing or to God calling them home.

Advocacy

Sheridan offers support groups and “caring connections” formed for those dealing with cancer, life transitions and other health issues.  A group setting allows for topic discussion and sharing as well as a presentation of information. Support is found and Christian community is celebrated as we form Grace Groups and walk with each other in life’s challenges.
