Today our Sheridan team participated in the official ground breaking for the new church, or temple as our friends call it. Bishop Gomez, the bishop of the Lutheran Church of El Salvador, led the service. Joe and Bonnie Reilly, trip leaders from Ohio, both spoke about their part in the process during the last four years. Sheridan Lutheran Church along with Good Shepard Lutheran in Bismarck, ND, were mentioned as probably the two most supportive churches of the project.
It was exciting when Joe and Bonnie were able to convince Habitat to start the project.
It was very exciting yesterday when we drove onto the lot and saw that it was cleared and staked out for the temple.
But today when I was invited to dig one of the first shovels of dirt has to be one of the most exciting times of my life.

Now this evening, after turning many more shovels of dirt, I sit here in absolute awe and wonder at the ways God has worked in the hearts of the Reilly’s, the Sheridan Mission teams, the congregation of Sheridan, Habitat for Humanity, Thrivent, Pastor Carlos and the people of Cristo Rey, and many others to make this dream a reality.
