We believe that through the love of Jesus Christ, God calls us to not only help others through our time spent in service and financially, but to establish and grow relationships with others. These relationships allow us to learn and grow as Christian disciples as we live our faith in the world.
On the night of his last meal with the disciples, Jesus knelt at the feet of his disciples–those who stood beside him and those who would betray him–and washed their feet. He then commanded them to “love one another” (John 13:34) It is this command that we endeavor to follow as we engage with one another and the wider world.
Our Ministry Partners
For more than a decade Sheridan has partnered with the Food Bank of Lincoln’s BackPack Program to provide extra food for children and their families each week of the school year. In addition to non-perishable food items, vouchers for fresh bread, eggs, and milk are included. Sheridan provides these bags for students at Holmes Elementary School and served 75 families during the 2025-2026 school year.
Volunteers are essential for this ministry. Food is purchased from the Food Bank of Lincoln, bags are packed at Sheridan, transported to Holmes Elementary School, and delivered to student classrooms; all by volunteers from the Sheridan community.

This ministry is highlighted each year in early August. Each bag costs $275 for the year, and you are invited to sponsor a backpack for the year with $275.

Barnabas Community was founded by Sheridan in 2008. Since then, Barnabas Community has grown exponentially and is now it’s own non-profit organization. Sheridan continues to partner with through in-kind donations, volunteers, and donations.
The mission of Barnabas Community is to serve those who are economically-challenged by providing a free store (clothes, small household goods, and hygiene products), meals three times a week, Worship and Bible Study.

Since 1993, the Nebraska Synod and the Northern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) have shared a deep relationship. The ELCT is one of the fastest-growing Christian churches in the world. Sheridan has developed a relationship with two companion churches in the ELCT, in the villages of Mudio and Karansi.
In addition to the relationships we maintain with these two congregations, we support students attending five secondary schools. Education in Tanzania is not free, and students consider it a privilege to attend school. Together, we have sponsored 140+ scholarships in the past years.
We give thanks to God for the relationship that has grown with our partner congregations, schools, and students and know that God will continue to bless this ministry richly!

Lutheran World Relief is an international relief and development organization that is organized by Lutheran Churches worldwide. Sheridan Lutheran Church partners with Lutheran World Relief in many ways, from timely aid in the face of disaster, as well as yearly Quilt & Kit making.
What are Lutheran World Relief kits?
Personal Care Kit:
- 1 lightweight, dark colored, bath towel
- 2 bath-size bars of soap
- 1 adult-size toothbrush (in original packaging)
- 1 sturdy comb
- 1 metal nail clippers
Baby Care Kit (all sizes must be 6-24 months):
- Lightweight cotton t-shirts (no onesies)
- Long or short-sleeved gowns or sleepers without feet
- Medium-weight cotton or flannel receiving blankets (between 36"-52" square)
- Cloth diapers, flat fold preferred
- Jacket, sweater, or sweatshirt with a hood
- Socks
- Hand towel, dark colors preferred
- Bath-size bars of gentle soap (no mini or hotel size bars)
- Diaper pins or large safety pins
School Kits:
- Four 70-sheet notebooks
- 16 or 24 count crayon boxes
- Handheld pencil sharpener
- 30cm ruler
- Blunt-end scissors
- Five #2 pencils with erasers (unsharpened)
- Five black or blue ballpoint pens
- 2.5 inch erasers
Sheridan Quilters
1st & 3rd Tuesdays; 9am; Outreach Center; led by Mickey Tuttle
You’re invited to be part of a creative and compassionate ministry! Sheridan Quilters meet twice a month to sew and tie quilts that are shared with our local community and sent around the world through Lutheran World Relief. No experience is needed, just a willing heart and a desire to serve. Come enjoy fellowship, learn new skills, and help wrap others in God’s love.
Sheridan’s Global Mission leadership expanding their partnership with Habitat for Humanity Global Village and Thrivent Builds. At first, we primarily served in El Salvador, beginning in 2016 Sheridan expanded their relationship with other Habitat Global Village locations throughout the world.
Since 2019, Sheridan has partnered with domestic Habitat affiliates in need of disaster recovery. In the summers of 2023 and 2024, teams from Sheridan has traveled to Medford, OR to help in the aftermath of the 2020 Almeda Fire. This fast moving fire decimated miles of property in the Rogue Valley in southern Oregon.
In addition to our partnership with global Habitat partners, Sheridan is connected to our local Habitat affiliate. Recently, Sheridan has helped to sponsor the local Rock the Block event to beautify a street in Lincoln.
Travel to international affiliates will resume in early 2026.

Clinic with a Heart is a free, faith-based medical clinic that serves those who are uninsured/underinsured in the Lincoln area. The clinic also aids patients in finding access to further health care in the community.
Sheridan adopts the second Tuesday of each month to assist with the financial needs of the clinic and provides a team of volunteers who run the clinic on this evening. Doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, and other volunteers are welcome to join the team.

Matt Talbot offers hot meals to guests twice a day as well as offering many other services to unhoused and economically challenged individuals and families. Evening meals are provided by volunteers; and Sheridan prepares a meal on the fourth Friday of each month. Sheridan orders and pays for food being served and volunteers prepare and serve the meal.
