Snow!

IMG_0126

This morning we awoke to snow in Erfurt!  On this trip we really haven’t spent any time worrying about weather forcasts (which is kind of weird for us).  So when we got to the breakfast space and looked out and saw big, fat, wet snowflakes falling, our heart leaped with joy!  I know I cannot do justice to describing the beauty of seeing snow falling on the trees in front of historic European buildings.  It snowed just enough to cover the ground.  It was lovely – touching and lifting our spirits.

Very rarely do I ever experience wanting to be somewhere other than I am.  I guess I’m blessed in that way.  Seeing the snow fall, in the midst of such indescribable and amazing beauty, I did long to be back home.  I love our home and our acreage.  I love our community and I love our church and staff families.  I missed that today.  I missed you today.

You see, I’m the annoying guy in the office who sings a happy tune when it is snowing.  When so many groan at the snow, I’m the person who is jovial – so much so that I generate sneers.  I’ll admit, not always is this the case, but usually.   “Oh the weather outside is frightful…”

It doesn’t matter how beautiful a place is, in the words of Dorothy, “There is no place like home.”  I feel so blessed to get to see and interact with this historic nation.  Germany is truly amazing. But I also am so grateful that I will get to return home in a few days.

Dare I say… I hope it snows!
