Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

I am so grateful that here in Nebraska we experience the faithful reminder of God’s unending gift in Christ. Each spring new life emerges even after all seems dead. The long, dark and cold nights of winter have passed. What looks dead is literally budding to life in front of us. Can you imagine those couple of dark nights following Jesus’ crucifixion? How endless and hopeless they must have seemed to his followers. How would they ever carry on? They had staked everything on this man – this Savior – and now they had lost him and all hope for the future. They did not know there would be an Easter resurrection; a new beginning. It must have been very dark indeed. And then came that first Easter morning. The Son literally rose bringing new life and new hope. What an unbelievably amazing experience that must of have been. He is risen! He is risen indeed!

Heavenly Father, Thank you for the gift of your son, Jesus, and the resurrection promise made in him. Thank you too, for the gift of spring and the renewal it brings. Help me to see the Easter promise in the green buds and hear it in the chirp of the birds. Please bring about your renewal in me. Daily resurrect me from the winter darkness in my heart into the glorious light of new life in Christ. Amen.
