The Beauty of Melting
As we traveled to Rainbow Trail, we had beautiful weather. It’s the first time I’d driven in the car with the sun shining in on me, and feeling very warm! All along the way the air has been fresh, sun bright and sky blue with beautiful white clouds wishing the horizon. Yeah, it’s been a refreshing time after the freezer burned experience of this winter’s cold.
We arrived at camp about 3 PM Sunday and the foot of snow they’d received this weekend was quickly melting with the sun. We learned to make friends with mud and we moved our belongings into our cabins.
Snow boots and pants, gloves and hats were donned as the first activity was a great snow ball fight. There is a 10 foot pile of snow from the plowing that the children and youth quickly summited. The adults took the wide open space (good targets) across the service road. Snowballs started flying and laughter erupted.
Dinner was fantastic – chicken, potatoes, steamed veggies, peach crisp dessert and great company. Our group of 31 from Sheridan is quickly becoming a group of fast friends.
Our evening winded down with worship. We gathered in Holling House with a roaring fire in the fire place. We started with singing our hearts out. Holling House is a smaller space with good acoustics. We lifted our hearts with songs from worship that we’ve learned at SLC. We shared our stories of what brought us on this trip – a desire to grow spiritually, snowboarding, skiing, time away. We prayed about our hopes for the week. We ended with a sending of peace and then were off to play games for the duration of the night.
As we walked to our cabins at night’s end, we stopped to look at the stars above us. There was no light pollution – just stars. They seemed to melt the darkness of the night. It had been a beautiful day.
Peace,
