VBS builds a family of faith

As the school year begins to wind down and families begin to make summer plans, the church is also working very intentionally to create engaging and impacting summer faith formation experiences. One of the many summer programs Sheridan Lutheran Church is proud to offer is Vacation Bible School, or VBS.

Sheridan’s VBS is designed to be an amazingly fun place for children to come and learn about God and so much more. VBS is an exciting week that will create a wonderful memory of a child’s experience at church. It is also an outreach to the community and it is a place for the church to truly be “the church.”

Over a five day time period, or a total of 15 hours, children learn, sing, play and praise God. They are completely immersed in learning how very much God loves them. VBS is a program that Sheridan has done well for many years and is mostly considered to be a children’s program.

We are proud to be able to say, however, that VBS isn’t just for children. It takes more than 175 volunteers, ranging in age from 11 to 88, to make VBS the special place it is. VBS is a true intergenerational experience with moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters and friends coming together to show and teach children of God’s love. Sheridan is able to create the VBS experience it does because of our church family that works together to create the experience. It is an event in which everyone is invited and encouraged to participate. VBS truly builds a family of faith.
