Volunteers Make Barnabas Thrive!
Champion, Cheryl Stubbendieck, is retiring as volunteer Executive Director of Barnabas Community
Since Barnabas Community first began in 2008, Cheryl Stubbendieck has been a consistent volunteer who has given countless hours in service to this ministry. Cheryl, working with others from Sheridan, helped to manage the start up of the store. Once Barnabas outgrew the initial facility, the team found the current location at 931 Saunders Ave. Cheryl again was instrumental in facilitating that move and starting the ministry of the community center. For the past three years, Cheryl has volunteered countless hours to Barnabas as the volunteer Executive Director. This spring, Cheryl retires from this work. Barnabas Community would not be what it is without Cheryl’s efforts and service. We are indebted to her and our hearts are thankful! Please join in thanking Cheryl for all that she has done for the Barnabas Community!
Volunteers make Barnabas thrive!
Did you know that in 2015, Barnabas served 1,200 families? The only way that was possible was due to our Barnabas volunteers! As of February 2016, we already have more than 400 families registered. Barnabas volunteers make this ministry happen by serving in a multitude of roles. Volunteers donate clothing and household goods, drive donations to Barnabas, sort donations, host guests in the community center, work in the store and pray for the ministry. Our volunteers give hundreds of hours each month to ensure that Barnabas is consistently available to our guests.
Each week, Barnabas provides clothing, household goods, and a place to be in the community center. Our ministry to the hungry grew significantly this past year. On Saturdays, we provide delicious breakfast foods to 60-80 guests. The final Thursday of the month, we serve a free buffet dinner, serving 60+ guests. Each Sunday, Foodnet at Barnabas provides fresh produce, dairy and food items to 135 families. This partnership is a win-win because it diverts food away from the landfill and into the hands of those who are hungry.
Join us for a celebration of our Barnabas Volunteers!
