We Lost Jesus…

Moser_Lund-edit

Summertime Jesus in front of Notre Dame.“We lost Jesus!” How could this happen? We’d taken our summertime Jesus all the way to Europe for our trip of a lifetime and we lost him. If truth be told, I lost him. I left him somewhere at Notre Dame Cathedral after taking this picture of Zoey with him. “I lost Jesus.” I get anxious even thinking it, let alone saying it out loud. Could I really lose Jesus? Sneaky, brilliant God! He used this silly experience to get under my skin and push me to examine my behavior. I see how often I act like Jesus is just a little paper doll I can pull out for pictures – when I remember to – and tuck him back in my bag or Bible until the next time I remember him. I’m still a work in progress, but this unexpected gift of our summertime Jesus made a powerful impression. I’m more conscious of my need for Jesus all the time, not just the photo-ops. I especially need to see him in the everyday chaos of my life, where I am busy, sometimes frustrated, and I often lose track of things. I guess losing summertime Jesus at Notre Dame was a good thing after all. It’s helping me see him right here, right now.

Thank you, Jesus, for the gift of your love and grace. Help me always keep you at the forefront of my crazy, wonderful life. Amen.
