Women’s Devotion: Summer Time Reflection
Spending a slow Sunday at the ballfield – the sun shining, a slight breeze blowing, and the temperature just right – I find myself relishing the abundance of blessings God has given me. As I enjoy the day, I am trying not to focus on the busyness of the days that lie ahead.
Over the past few weeks, I have been subtly reminded of the importance of counting my blessings. In the hurried pace of everyday life, it can be difficult to see what is right in front of us. It is easy to compare ourselves – our lives, our jobs, our families, and our circumstances – to those around us. When we do, we may begin to feel that what we have is not enough, not as good as someone else’s, or that something different would make us happier.
It is comforting to know that God hears us. He hears our desires for more, our requests for things to be different, and our wishes for circumstances to change. Yet it is even more comforting to know that God is all we truly need. Not more possessions, not more time, and not a different situation – simply God. God is our greatest blessing.
As a slower pace of summer begins, my hope for the season is to be present. I want to enjoy the simple blessings that summer brings: taking time to watch the sunsets, filling my days with purpose rather than packed schedules, and appreciating the moments that often pass too quickly. Time is fleeting, and each day is a gift from God.
This summer, may we all take a moment to count our blessings and remember that the greatest blessing of all is knowing that we are deeply loved by him.
Thessalonians 5:18:
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
