Women’s Devotion: Trusting in God Through Change

Isaiah 43:19
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

Life is full of change. Most of us are uncomfortable with this, but we can’t avoid it no matter how hard we try. Even when good, change unbalances us. It makes us perceive anew or think differently, which can be challenging. In Isaiah 43:19, there is excitement and opportunity in the new thing God is doing. We are encouraged to look at the new thing through the eyes of faith rather than fear. Though it may seem obscured, God assures us He is forging a new path for us and providing all we need to walk it. Our role is to faithfully step forward into the new thing springing up. It sounds easier than it is, and it’s personal for me. Our daughter will graduate high school in 2020, then off to college. I’m so excited for the new things God has in store for her, but it will be awfully hard to let her go. Isaiah’s words are a good reminder. I need to trust and look expectantly for the exciting new things God has in store for me too!

Creative, loving Father, thank you for continually doing new things! Help me to trust that you always make a way for me in the wilderness. Amen.
